Creating a Versatile Wardrobe Because Who Knows What 2021 Has In-Store?

For the past twelve months, we’ve all become quite accustomed to uncertainty. With memes abound on the internet asking if we’ll need more sweatpants and skincare or dresses and office wear, we’re focused on building a wardrobe that’s as versatile as possible. The good news? We have a few ideas for how to make that happen. Here are our top tips for creating a versatile wardrobe that will carry you through 2021 no matter what it has in store for us.

Start With An Audit

Before you start adding any new pieces to your wardrobe, it’s important to tackle the not-so-fun part of the process: the audit. This is where you take the time to assess the pieces you already have. We recommend pulling everything out of your closet and laying it out. Divide your wardrobe up into workwear, activewear, weekend wear, and loungewear. What scenarios do you have covered? Where are there gaps?

Find The Multi-Taskers

Whether you’re shopping for new pieces or assessing what you already have available in your wardrobe, keep an eye out for the pieces that can multitask. We’re talking about day-to-night dresses, tailored loungewear that is both cozy and yet still chic with the right sneakers, footwear that is polished enough for a night out and comfortable enough to carry you through the day, and seasonless items that can be worn year-round wear with just a few tweaks.

Accessorize, Accessorize, Accessorize

What is the key to making those versatile pieces work for different occasions? It’s all about your accessories. From footwear to jewelry, accessories are incredible tools for transforming your outfit. A little black dress can go from casual to glam by swapping out your flats for a heel and adding a pair of earrings and an eye-catching lipstick. A tailored suit can go from the boardroom to drinks by losing the jacket, cuffing the sleeve, and swapping out your loafers for a sneaker.

Consider Your Palette

A great way to make sure you can get the most wear out of the pieces in our wardrobe is to build them around a colour palette. If you have a cohesive colour palette in mind as you build your wardrobe, you’ll find that your pieces will work together seamlessly. Mixing and matching your wardrobe will become much easier and the possibilities will be endless!

Download a Clothing-Rental App

But, what to do about special occasions? Will that Summer wedding you were invited to actually happen? Will we be celebrating birthdays on Zoom or in person? For now, it’s hard to say. Our, (totally unbiased), recommendation? Download a clothing-sharing app! Instead of investing in a piece you might not even have the opportunity to wear, opt for a rental instead. Plus, if there are pieces in your wardrobe you haven’t had the chance to wear in a while, list them and give yourself an opportunity to earn some additional income. We think that’s what they call a win-win.
